The Septic Solution...Or Maybe Not......

You may remember, that I had mentioned a septic problem at the cottage...

We went out on Tuesday to meet the guy...have the septic pumped...and our problems would be over...

Apparently not...

He arrived right on time...

Started digging where we THOUGHT the septic was...

But it wasn't...so he kept

digging...and digging...and digging...

He finally located the concrete lid..

Removed that...and..well...er...um...
You know the rest...

But...and a big but...the septic wasn't even full...actually..he said maybe 1/2 full...and we still had gurgling going on inside...the tub was bubbling up...the kitchen sink was gurgling...and the toilet...well..don't even go there...

SO......he put the lid back on...extracted a few hundred dollars from my boyfriends wallet...and left....oh yeah...he told us the problem was between the cottage and the septic...about 12 feet of piping...

                                  GREAT!!!! Thanks a load...[sorry about that...couldn't resist]

SO we called Lloyd...our fantastic handy-man....HELP!!!

Good old Lloyd arrived lickety split...

Started digging...

And digging...

And digging...

Then he tried a "snake"...

No good...

The clog would not move...

We all went down to the basement...

Opened a huge valve...stuck in a very long 12 foot pole...shoved...pushed..

And then it happened...the clog "moved"...and fell into the septic..

We were healed.....thank goodness...I had already been in tears earlier in the day....I don't handle things like this very well....

My boyfriend put all the dirt back in...raked it ever so nicely...and you would never know there had been a problem...I will have to work on the bed next weekend....And this was the bed that I had just fixed this Spring...oh well...I guess things could have been worse...

We spent the night......worked around yesterday....and I painted the kitchen and bath floors, before we left...

Took this shot before we left....

The recent rains, really helped the grass...

Looks a lot greener, than it had been...

Hope you all had a great day...

                              Cheers!            :o)

  2. Thank goodness the problem was found and solved. Hopefully the wind was blowing out to the lake that day and took away those septic smells. We keep 2 small patio stones over the openings of the septic so we always know where they are as out here they charge extra for digging. I just put a big planter on the stones, or this year I have one of my plant tables over them.

    1. My husband added a long yellow rope, attached to the lid..
When I put the bed back together, I will leave the rope sticking out!!!
We have been at the cottage for 15 years, and this is only the 2nd time we had it serviced...Apparently it is a very large tank...the previous owners had it installed...

    1. We have never had a problem before...I will be sad if we ever sell...but we probably won't...'cause the kids want it!!! Where do you find 1 acre prime lakefront property now-a-days...except for millions of $'s...

  8. Good grief! I hate THOSE kinds of problems! My parents use to have a house on a lake not far from here. Every single time it rained they had septic problems, it seemed. Finally, somebody fixed it RIGHT, and they never had an issue again. Glad YOURS worked out to be fairly simple and inexpensive! Now on to the weekend ahead. Enjoy!
