Fourty Winks For The Finch.....ZZZZZZ..

As I sat at the kitchen table yeaterday...

Soaking in the lovely afternoon sun...

     I spied quite the phenomenon!

     There he was...

Asleep at the switch...feeling the warm sun on his tiny body...

Sawing logs...oblivious of me...taking his picture...thru the window...

Have you ever seen such a thing???

     I watched him for a good 1/2 hour...snoring away...so cute!!!

I went out the patio doors...and got a back view...

     Still nodding...and then...bolted straight up!

     "Hey....I wasn't sleeping...honest"!!!

Have you ever seen this happen? I never had...

Guess there is a first time for everything, eh?

Just so glad the Finches are back....

I did not have any all Winter...so I cranked out the Nyger seed...

If you put it out....they will come! hahaha!

                                                        ***************

Kind of a dull day here...bit windy...rain headed our way   :o(

  1. That's so cute! I love to watch birds sleep. My mother has a Macaw parrot. He lives in a big cage with perches in it. Sometimes when he falls asleep, he falls off the perch!

  5. What shots, Linda! No, I don't think I have ever seen a napping Finch. I'd love to though...Mother Nature seems to be back on track in your neck of the woods:) Thank you so much for sharing...

    1. She's arrived....if not a wee bit late to the party!
I have NEVER seen a napping bird.....especially at the feeder!

  6. Was his behaviour OK after that? Did he fly away OK? Did you see him eat? Were his eyes crusty or weepy?
Why I ask is that I'm a retired wildlife rehabber ( I specialised in birds) and this behaviour is indicative of either a sick bird or an exhausted one. If his eyes were crusty/weepy then you will need to clean all your feeders with a 10:1 bleach solution, then leave them to dry in the sun before refilling them.
Enough of the lecture...old habits die hard!

    1. Oh Jane....he flew away after I "woke" him....
My feeder was clean...first filling for the season....
I am sure he was napping...taking in the lovely sunshine....
      Gee...now I feel bad....

    2. If he looked OK then he was probably just exhausted. A long flight . Birds ,specifically finches carry conjunctivitis which can effect other birds who pick it up at feeders...just making sure!

    3. There were several Finches eating there today...
You know what Jane...to be on the safe side, I will pull the feeder....buy a new one....want the Finches to be happy♥️

    4. No need to buy a new one, just wash it in 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and leave to dry thoroughly...in the sun if you can.
Sorry to scare you...I didn't mean to.

  9. I do that sometimes. Just close my eyes, soak up that spring sunshine, and pray I don't fall off my perch.

  13. How funny LInda, you and I have done a near identical post today. I almost titled mine, "If you feed them, they will come." Great minds think alike, eh?
I am wondering how you snuck up those two other posts!!!??? I thought that I was nearly all caught up, and then come to find out, I have missed two posts! Lovely little Miss V in her new snappy rain jacket. I want to see those earwarmers on her!!!
Beautiful flowers, as always! Looks like maybe your snow at the house has melted?
    Spring is surely here!

  14. I've never seen that on my watch before Linda. I'm glad it didn't fall off it's perch. I've seen doves on the deck snoozing but they are so aware of any noise or movement that they don't close their eyes for long. I saw a robin yesterday and a blackbird and a grackle. So exciting!!! Sunny here today and mild but a messy weekend coming, of course! Hope your's is a good one. Pam
