Tulip Time......

Hope you are all well, and enjoyed the long weekend here in Canada!!

We spent 5 days at the cottage...got a lot done...enjoyed the time down there!!

The weather was up and down...humid on the Wednesday and Thursday...and

of course... W I N D Y!!...sorry about that!! But...seriously...this is one of

the windiest Springs I can remember...

The good thing with all the rain...the TULIPS at the cottage have been

SPECTACULAR....

We have owned the cottage for 21 years...I have not planted 1 single tulip...

The original owners planted all the Tulips...all I have done, is move them

around , as I have dug the garden beds. There was only the rock garden when

we purchased it...no other beds at all...SO...the daffodils and tulips have

Been on the move ever since. All of the other perennials have been planted by

MOI...lots of sweaty hard work digging out there, I'll tell 'ya!! Plenty of tree

roots to contend with. So...I guess you have a whole new appreciation for my

cottage gardens, eh??? All dug my me! hahaha!!

Anyway...enough about ME...back to the Tulips!!

I had to cut a few for my kitchen window/shelf overlooking the Sunporch.

We finally got all those shutters down, and I scrubbed everything in there.

Doesn't it always feel so good, when you get everything spruced up for

another season???

Miss V and her Mom...and my son and his wife came out on the Saturday...

My other daughter and SIL had a very sick Kitty, and could not make it out...:o(

All in all a good few days...got to the nursery...got my veggies planted...

My baskets will be done this weekend...

                                         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope that you are all well...and enjoying the garden...
I am so pleased...I got to fitness again this am...and a nice coffee chit chat
afterwards...
We had delicious baked cod...wild rice...asparagus...and sauteed veggies...
We have a Neice's wedding in July...and I really must lose at LEAST 5lbs!!!!
I should be able to do it....right????
        Enjoy your evening...
              Cheers!  :o)
  1. Linda- How nice you have enjoyed your cottage for so many years. Your plants/gardens are beautiful! That is great that the tulips have all survived like that.
    Glad you had family there for the weekend but sorry about the sick kitty!
    Hope you have a wonderful night. It is cold, rainy and very dreary here. It's been a long, cold spring. xo Diana
  7. Our tulips have come and gone...not a very good year for them as we had a very mild winter. The do need that burst of cold. How great that you inherited yours and they have become bountiful. You've done wonders more. I didn't know you have owned your cottage this long...your children must have fond memories!
    I've been here at the lake since last Friday, no plans to go home. Lots of drama there. Little Elsie has a brand new baby sister and still no grandmother. Last time I saw her she hid behind the curtains when I tried to kiss her goodbye. Seriously, she's two years old! Very hard on my heart. I escaped and pray those I left behind can set this straight. But...so immensely enjoying my 'alone' time here...cooking and cleaning and fluffing... buying flowers and sorting out my workspace. Never a minute wasted. I'm very content alone.
    Sending love and yes, I'll keep the pics coming.
  8. Golly, those tulips are fabulous . . . lots of TLC there . . . . and I 'did' the way you have transformed the garden over the years with all that digging and hard work. In a way, my two friends and I are doing the same sort of thing at The Rectory, in the big garden we attend every Wednesday.
    Cheers, Eddie . . :)
    1. It is nice to create the entire garden yourself, eh??
      I am letting my perennials kind of "naturalize" at the cottage...letting them spread...it is just the darn grass and weeds that grow in between that drives me nuts!!
      Very weird weather...hard to make plans!!
      Hahaha...lose weight crocheting! you are hilarious...and I know that you are skinny...but I also know that your washcloths will be gorgeous! Get practicing!!
  13. Lovely photos and flowers . Our tulips have been done now for a week or so now all my other perennials are in bloom and the odd planter here and there lol ! It is always windy this way of lake Erie no matter what season it is and we live about a 6 min drive from the lake not right on it like your cottage so I can imagine how much windier it is for you there . I love gardening and now I can sit back and watch it all bloom and grow . They say this summer will be wetter then normal hope not to wet I want lots of sunshine . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day .
  14. We have one solitary tulip in our front yard planted by a former owner. One. And as soon as it blooms the deer come and rip it off.
  15. The reddish coloured tulips remind me of the commemorative ones for Canada's 150th year. So lovely! Your blog sounds cheery and chatty. You must be super energized from fitness and ladies coffee! Not looking forward to tomorrow's rainy forecast, meeting some Toronto ladies for lunch. Enjoy the rest of the week, at the cottage and/or at home.
  18. Every piece of your cottage story makes it as sweet as a dream! I love that you've had it for 21 years. I love that the tulips are a "gift" from the previous owners. I love the care you have given it for that length of time and the joy you have in making it ready for a new season. All good. And, BTW, those tulips are spectacular! blessings ~ tanna
