The Weekend In Review....

When we arrived at the cottage...around 7pm on Thursday night...

It was terribly hot inside..

Snapped this pic of the thermometer on the wall between the kitchen and living room...

Plus...

All that humidity had caused my fridge to sport a small coating of black mold...

EWWWWW....

Had to clean that right away!!!

Once we got out to our beloved deck...

Staring up at the Moon...while the sun was still out....was awesome...

I went straight for my hose...

And gave things a nice long refreshing drink...

This Datura was very thankful...

And gave us a lovely bloom that evening...

The Moon was so bright....

Even with the sunset...

Love this...

Later that evening....it really showed itself off...

After a pretty steamy nights sleep...

Or lack of sleep...

The temp had not changed that much by Friday morning....

But...

The sweet peas made everything seem better...:o)

There was a strong south-west breeze on Friday...

SO...

At least it didn't feel as hot...

We kept ourselves busy...

Moving from one shaded spot to another...

I even had a 1/2 hour nap in the hammock...

How decadent was that?!

You can see my boyfriend tucked away in the shade...the sun was sooo hot and bright...and far too windy for our umbrellas...

Back to the garden tour...

A few small tomatoes...

And a bright blue basket of lovely pink begonias...

I looked on as my boyfriend fed the seagulls...

The Friday night sunset was beautiful.....little did we know what was to come...
My daughter and SIL live in Burlington, and they called us to say that a tornado had gone up their street, and that it was headed towards the cottage...Their street had many trees down...one neighbour had 4 trees on his house!!! Luckily, my daughter had slight tree damage...but some of her beautiful Magnolia tree was damaged...and a big branch off a  maple tree in their back yard.....Their power was out for about 6 hours....thankfully they were fine...but pretty shook up...

We continued along our merry little way....dinner on the sunporch...sunny blue skies all around...My other daughter called and said that there were warnings on the tv for our area...still nothing....slowly but surely...just after 9pm...the winds started to kick up....die off...there would be a lull...and then pick up again...

We pushed everything to the back of the sunporch...and positioned ourselves to await the storm...things really started cooking around 9:30....the power went off...by 10pm...we were forced inside, as the winds were very strong...rain pounded the old girl for several hours...we sat in the dark, and watched 100's of lightning strikes over the lake...and loud bangs and claps of thunder...

We escaped unscathed...quite a few twigs and small branches down...but otherwise AOK...

I must say...it was pretty steamy that night...with all that dampness and rain..

This was the view of the lakeside on Saturday morning...
Still a huge cloud hanging to the south of us....in the U.S....
We left for home around noon....sweaty and soggy and tired...

And this cute little fella told us to be careful, and that he would see us next week..

And look who we found when we arrived home!!!

What better present could there be?

Sweet little 1 day after her birthday girl and her Mom...

So...

Grampa and I were only too happy to join in the fun!!!

Boy...she loves the water!!!

And a nice snack afterwards...
Soooo....

That takes us up to Saturday afternoon...

Wasn't last night a lovely refreshing evening...

We ate dinner on the deck...and stayed out 'til the sun went down...

Now...

Today...is a whole other story...birthday cake with Miss V...

Stay tuned...

Hope you all had  a good weekend...and safe from the storms...

                       Cheers!  :o)

  1. How did your hometown neck of the woods fare? My Darling's cousin posted a few scary cloud pictures from around St. Catherines. Posted one of them on my blog for a Skywatch Friday. It seemed appropriate.

  2. It was wicked here on Friday night, and we were out for dinner (anniversary #44) ... luckily we had just got our dinner when the lights flicked on and off at restaurant, then went out totally, then came back on, then off again. By that time we had finished dinner but waited till the heavy, heavy rain slowed right down. Lights were off in town, but when we got home they had only flicked on and off. Gorgeous day today, no humidity at all, able to eat outside today.

Love that float station for Vivian. Happy birthday to her, even though its a few days late.

If weather is good we are heading to another beach with the grandkids tomorrow.
Glad to hear you all came through the storm okay. To the east of us in Napanee it was awful and some are still without hydro and they even questioned whether a tornado touched down, but no confirmation from weather office.

  4. I'm so glad you were okay in that storm! It sounds like a scary one. That's a little like the storm we had on Friday afternoon. The weather has been crazy everywhere, I think. I really love Vivian's little float, that's adorable and the sunshade on it such a good idea. I'd never seen a datura before, thank you for sharing yours!

  6. Beautiful weekend photos Linda! You always find something different to photograph at the cottage and the skies can be different every hour. I love the photo of the Datura bloom! I'm glad you and your daughter were safe from the storms there. I heard there was a lot of damage. There was also a tornado in NB on Saturday afternoon at Cambridge Narrows. No one was injured but a couple of barns and lots of trees were taken down. An unusual event for here!

We had the same CRAZY storm last Friday night and many trees came down in the neighbourhood! No power, as well. We were unscathed, thankfully.
