Seems Like Yesterday....9/9/72

Who would believe it?

We met in 1967...I was dating his best friend at the time...

By early 1968...we were dating...

The pictures below were taken at Sayvette's on Dixie Rd...

Does anyone remember Sayvette's???

I believe it was even before Towers...another name from the past..

The one on the left was in June 1978...

The far one was taken in July 1979 as well...
probably at the EX....

The next one was at my cottage on Lake Simcoe...July 1979...

And....for the record...yes...I did sew Greg's jams....I used to make him quite a few things, as I sewed almost my whole wardrobe...in those days...  :o)

Then we started going to Sorority Formals...yes...I made my dresses...the top one was pink Dotted Swiss...loved it...the bottom one was a bit "sexier" a shiny fabric....love the ringlets, eh??   Greg wore boots, and his Mom said he looked like he was going to a rodeo!!!

These 2 were taken at Greg's cottage in Jackson's Point...at the beach and at his cottage...and yes, yes, yes....I made the Jams he is wearing!!! I must have lived at Fabricland in those days!!!
This was my 21st Birthday...My Dad took us all to The Mermaid restaurant on Bay Street in Toronto...got $1000!!!!! Wow...I was rich...I think that was about all I had in the bank when we got married!!!!  Check out Greg's tie...yup...made by me!!!   Do you think it was WIDE enough!!!

OK...left to right...my brother Bill, Archie, my brother Tom[he died when he was 37, and we all still miss him EVERYDAY], Anthony, Mike [the guy I was dating before Greg], Greg's brother Paul...The Groom And I...my sister-in-law May,my sister Honor[she was 12 at the time],Barb, Greg's sister Debbie, Nancy and Pat.....the 2 adorable flower girls were our neices Tara and Andrea.........I made 3 bridesmaids dresses and the 2 flower girl dresses... Pretty funky dresses, eh???I think they all hated them, but because it was a September wedding, I loved the fabric...and after all....I WAS THE BRIDE!!!  And I found the greatest navy/burgundy platform shoes and navy nylons...Greg always loved navy nylons!!!

Ryan, Lissa and Erika....our 3 kids  :o)
We also have a wonderful son-in-law Jeff,
And I know you have all met Vivian...:o)

And here we are today...
well...not really TODAY..!

Last  February in Florida...

Still my boyfriend...

After 40 years of marriage...

Ups and downs...

I still love him...

And my kids especially...:o)

Hope you got a smile out of our journey....I know I sure have...:o)

The scanner has opened new doors to me...

Perhaps I will take you down memory lane again...

We had planned to stay over at the cottage, and go to the local restaurant for a fish dinner...and then drive down to Pelee Island for a few days...but the stupid septic got in the way....Oh well...not that important...we have reservations at the Keg this evening....and that is always delicious...who could ask for anything more!?....right Vivian... :o)

Hope you all had a good weekend....We did!!!!

                                   Cheers!   :o)

  1. How lovely to see photos from your past. I had made a very similar pattern to your sexier shiny fabric dress, but mine was orange. Oh those were the days. The date of the post threw me off a bit, 9/9/72 and then met dated in '78
I remember Sayvettes and then Towers. I used to go to one in Scarborough and there was a walk over bridge to other stores. Haven't thought about that in a long time. There was still a Towers here in town when we moved here in '81, long gone now, changed to a Zellers and then a call center. One of these days I'll scan our old photos.
It has been a great weekend.

    1. Our eyes are getting older, we read one thing, type something else, and think something else.
Our timeline is about the same, and we married in '69

  3. Thanks for the blast from the past! We are from the same era... got married to MY high school sweetheart in 1967...one year after graduation! Loved the old pictures too! I'm very much the family "historian" for both of our families, and I always love finding those old pictures. Amazing how many people never kept up with them! Thanks again for sharing.

What a super family you are, seeing the generations and sharing your memories... Truly wonderful Linda. Your happiness is evident to see and that makes my heart sing, as well as seeing little Vivian too.

What a joy to see... and the history of the cottage and how it has been an important part of your lives. I feel as though I have read a romantic novel.. Best Wishes LisaX

  10. Congratulations, Linda!!! How wonderful that you have been able to spend 40 years with your boyfriend. Quite an accomplishment in this day and age.

Looking back on the photos made me feel like I now know your whole family - love the wedding pictures! Your headpiece looks similar to the one I wore in 1975 - you were a stunning bride.

Sorry you didn't get to Pelee Island - if you ever go, stay at the Wavecrest B & B - fabulous place we discovered this summer.

  11. Holy Smokes!!! Awesome Linda! I remember that loooooong bloooooonde hair for sure! It was your pride and joy if I remember correctly. You are both looking pretty good after 40 years. The flowery bridesmaids' dresses are simply terrible....but at the time....I suppose we would have loved them!! Congratulations on a long happy marriage - they are rare!!
