Closing Day........

 Last Saturday...
We finally got to "Closing Day" at the cottage...
Before heading down to see what was happening on the beach...
I always put some Sunflower seeds out...
For whomever is interested!!

There was no snow at the cottage...
But a brisk wind was blowing from the east...
Very cloudy...but with a wee bit of blue sky showing through...

Found an old rusty fly swatter!
Imagine that!
And another lovely feather...with black..white..and tan...
Wonder who lost that?

There was some ice on the old well...
And the waves were crashing every so often...
But...
Actually almost calm...
I think the waves were still slowing down, from a very windy day...
The day before...
If you live near,or visit a Great Lake..you will understand...

The Seagulls put on a grand display...
So many pictures...hard to pick a few...

Before going in to empty and unplug the fridge...
Gather up some blankets and such to wash...
I took a short walkabout...
Found these pinecones on a bench...
I guess Mr Squirrel was nibbling on the seeds...
That brief snow flurry left just enough snow...
To make the pic even more beautiful...

I do believe Mr Chipmunk...or "Chippie"...
Lives in the bottom of this huge old Maple tree...
You can see where he has rounded out an entrance...
Looks like Mr Snail tried to join him for the Winter!

One last shot through the window...
The Gulls have calmed down...
The tv room looks very tranquil...
All dressed in white...love this!

 So...there you have it!
Water all drained...
Plumbing fluid in all the drains...
Everything safe and sound and cosy for the long Winter...
Won't belong before SPRING arrives...in all her glory...
And the cottage will SPRING to life again...
Can hardly wait♥️

Saw this handsome guy on our way home...

Hope you are all having a great day...
Sunny and bright here...but still coolish...at -5*c...I thought it would be warmer...Apparently tomorrow!!
And...
Tomorrow is also Miss V day...what ever will we do???

Got my Skinny Beef soup made this am...
Had a bowl for lunch...delish!
And...
Only 174 calories for 1 1/2 cups...and 2 grams of fat!!
Will be having another bowl for dinner...
Will give the boyfriend a Tuna and lettuce on Rye to go with his soup...

Enjoy the rest of your day!

                             Cheers!  :o)
                                 linda♥️

  3. Amazing what you find on the beach. I wonder where that old fly swatter drifted in from eh? The waves look really cold but I love the pics of the seagulls and can try to imagine they are in Florida instead. Haha. Have a great week Linda.

It has been sunny on and off today Miggs and I went for our long walk as the winds were calm and had play time in the yard to , watched the birdies at the feeders and Miggs chased George the Crow lol ! Miss V and you will have a fun and busy day I expect . Oh the soup sounds good . 7. Love the seagull shots, Linda. I guess it would be sad to close up the cottage but you can look forward to your trip now and the winter will fly by. It's cold here but tomorrow the temps rise again to -2. I can take that. I hope it's like that all winter. Deb

  8. Gosh it does look cold! Perfect for a pot of soup. Looks like the Seagulls found a honey hole and I know the squirrel did. Ha Ha! Your tv room looks beautiful! But now, I have to ask...why do you unplug your fridge?

    ReplyDelete

    1. With no heat on at the cottage all Winter, the fridge struggles...I used to leave it on all winter...just 'cause I was lazy! Much better to unplug, and give her a rest!

  9. Lovely photos as always. Your soup sounds delish, this BF made chicken stir fry for dinner. His one and only dish, but no complaints from me! I also had a facial, what a pampered day for me. :) Have fun with little cutie tomorrow...

  12. The waves are really churning up the mucky stuff! The gulls must have been feasting on something else that was brought to the surface. Great shots of them ... I can just imagine the chattering and arguments they were most likely having :) That is such a nice farewell shot of the interior, snug and ready for the long sleep of winter. Surely this winter won't be nearly as long as the last two though? I would like just a teeny bit more snow for the kids to play in. Enjoy your day with Miss V tomorrow, I'm sure she'll come up with something fun to do together!

      She is north...cottage is south....

  19. These are stunning shots, Linda. How wild your lake is and the landscape is so awesome. I thought your lake home was year round as you continued to visit well into the cold weather.

Your soup sounded so delish I decided to pull out some beef bones and make some myself as well as a base for some other dishes. Thanks for the inspiration, Linda!!

  20. A lovely post to farewell the cosy cottage for the winter. What funny things wash up on your beach - a fly swat indeed! Love those pictures of gulls - actually, I bought a nice wooden one today as a new year change of décor for our house. Interesting to read you have to put special fluid in the pipes - we tropical dwellers really have no idea....

Only at our seasonal homes Patricia...stops any problems with pipes bursting , if any water left in the lines....
