I have been a long time fan of The Baltimore Oriole...
the birds...not the baseball team!!
They have been nesting at my neighbours,at the cottage.... for as many summers as I can remember...
I love their gentle quiet song...
And their brilliant colours...
I have been putting Orange slices out for them, for a few summers...
This year...
I hit the jackpot!!!
They are nesting in our one of our Maple trees...
I had to go out on our small balcony...off the guestroom...to get a good shot...
Pretty cool, eh??
They love the oranges slices...
And when they are done...
They are empty rinds...
So pleased...
They have decided...
To nest...
At our place...
I don't go out on the balcony very often...
Last time, was when my boyfriend and I stained the railing, after having it all rebuilt...
But the views...
Well...
They are spectacular...
ALMOST as beautiful as the Orioles!!!
Hope you all had a great weekend...
It was pretty darn chilly at the Lake...
But....we got a lot of odd jobs completed...so...it was a good thing!!
Went out to Swiss Chalet for dinner..a night off for the Cook!!
Supposed to rain tomorrow..
Great for the garden!
We are watching Vivian tomorrow...YAY!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your evening...
Cheers! :o)

I'm guessing you'll be out on the balcony a little bit more often in the future. I would love to se a nest of Baltimore Orioles. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteNot bloody likely, Martha!!!
DeleteI am not that great with heights, and the railing is REALLY short!!!
But...I did enjoy getting those shots!!
Wonderful photos ! We have a Mrs Oriole nesting in our big oak tree and three males looking after the nest when she goes out for food ! Yes it has been quite chilly down here but the temps are slowly rising and hopefully rain for us to , we haven't had rain for weeks but have had light frost the past few mornings ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteThanks...I did not actually see any birds going into the nest...will look closer next weekend...when it warms up!!! hahaha!
DeleteI'm really impressed with the orioles you're attracting! We do have them here but I had very little luck attracting them. I'm so glad you're getting them, though; they're very pretty birds.
ReplyDeleteTry the sliced orange trick...will probably work for you!
DeleteThis is amazing! I have never seen one in real life and that nest is fabulous. You waited very patiently to get those shots...bird's eye view. I love the eaten orange. Wonderful story. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Leslie...I did wait!! Everytime I saw him go to the orange...I would try for some pics!!! Well worth the wait...for sure!!
DeleteHow lucky you are to have the orioles nesting right in your garden at the cottage. We have them hear, and the sing and chase but I've never been lucky enough to see a nest.
ReplyDeleteThey are an interesting nest...like a hanging one...made with bits of string etc...will be watching for more action this weekend!!
DeleteThese are wonderful shots of the Oriels Linda. I've never seen one before. Oranges are expensive so do you buy cheap ones? Are they fussy? :) I think one can buy Oriel feeders and food too right? I've just never seen them in stores here maybe because Oriels don't frequent these parts. I love the view from your balcony. I think I'd sit up there a lot. Like a bird. :)
ReplyDeleteI just buy 2 oranges every weekend...did not notice the cost!!
DeleteI only put one out last weekend...the other one is in the fridge...if we stay longer, then I will replace the dry ones...you can see, the ants love them as well!! My neighbour has the feeder...larger than the hummingbird one, and ,of course...ORANGE!! haha!
I am so glad they nested at our place, now I can watch their progress all summer!
Hi there! I have only just gotten a glimpse of orioles. I'd love to be familiar with their song! So lucky to have them nesting. You got some fabulous shots! So nice to be back visiting your beautiful life. Loved your datura post. It's also called loco weed here. So exotic.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacqueline!!! Glad you had time to visit!!
