Windy...Cold...Dark...Damp...Friday The 13th At The Cottage...

You may all remember, last Thursday the winds were incredible!!
Well...near the cottage...on Lake Erie...they were gusting to 130km/hr!!!
That is just craziness!!
My neighbour..who lives year round..sent me a photo on Thursday evening...she said it was unbelieveable!

When we arrived on Friday, and turned the corner, this is how the lake and sky looked!!
The water was brown!! I guess from all the churning... we were so pleased when we pulled into the driveway...to see the "old girl" was still standing...and looking rather proud of herself for weathering another storm!! After all...she started out in 1931...built on the beach!! And...in the early 50's, when Hurricane Hazel blew thru, she was moved back on the 1 acre property, and placed onto a concrete basement...Oh the tales she could tell!! the owners that we bought her from, were the daughter and son-in-law of the original owners...the daughter...Elaine, who was in her late 70's when we bought, and her husband Sheridan...have since passed on...so...we are really only the 2nd family to live there! Very cool!

Here is my boyfriend walking down the walkway, to inspect the beach...
What a mess!!
I think we got every twig, log, tree branch for miles around...ON OUR BEACH!!

Plenty of firewood!!
Wonder how long it will be there!!
Hopefully some big waves will take it back to where it came from!!

The big rock I usually stand on...is GONE!!
This rock is in our firepit...
The firepit is usually safe from the waves...
It must have been a sight to see...for sure!!

Even the beach deck had stones tossed onto it...

One very pleasant surprise...
The new winter shutters are on!!
YAY!!
Don't they look snappy...handles and all!!
And a view on the inside!!
Very pleased with these...the old ones were in really bad shape...
And...
Last year when we put the old ones up...they had black mold on them...
YUCK!!!
Out they went...
These are beautiful!!

We had come prepared to stay overnight...
And...
When the sun came out...we thought..hey...perhaps we can stay after all!!
But...
Within 10 minutes or so...the clouds darkened...
And we could see water spouts across the lake...

Possibly rain showers...and the wind would pick up...and it was darn COLD!!!

So...
We got back in the truck, and headed home :o(
Oh well...
Perhaps next weekend..altho...the forecast is cold!!

Hope you all had a great weekend...

And are having a great day!!

It was really nice yesterday...and today...lots of sunshine...14*c!!

Got some more leaves cleaned up in the backyard...

Had the whole family here yesterday for my boyfriends birthday party!!

Thanks for all your good wishes...much appreciated!!

Enjoy the rest of your day...

              Cheers!  :o)

  6. Well "shiver me timbers" what a powerful storm and such strength to toss that big rock like that.
Very interesting history of the cottage.

I bet your neighbours were concerned they might get blown away like Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz.

Good job you have the winter shutters on.

Are you still planning to go to the cottage at weekends during the winter? . . . :)

    1. Hi Eddie...
These pica are not even the worst of the wind!
I am glad the shutters are up...we like to put our outdoor stuff in there!
We go for visits all winter, but just too darn cold upstairs where we sleep!
The furnace and fireplace keep us toasty downstairs, but with no insulation, or attic, the heat just goes out thru the roof!
It is what it is....and we love it!
Water is still on...perhaps another sleepover, before we close...

  12. Hey Girlfriend. Wow, what a wind storm and great pictures. Are those another pair of cute shoes I see on you feet? Where do you find such darling ones?
I've really missed being out of blog land for a while.
Hope you have a great week. So far today was very relaxing and I appreciated it. We did have some big winds here at the Villa, and one limb on a tree by the playground fell.
Our cars were just covered with leaves and dirt....but my dearest took mine to the car wash so I wouldn't be embarrassed to drive it to Bible Study tomorrow morning. HaHa. Sending love and Hugs.

What a storm you had. I never imagined your lake could look so wild and windy, not to mention dangerous! Good move to go home before it whipped up again. But what great pictures you take, so dramatic. And Happy Birthday to your boyfriend!

    1. HI Jaclyn...
I guess at that point, the cottage was only 20 years old...so they just moved it back further...as did a lot of cottagers...
Sure wish I had a few pictures from those days!!

  16. That looks really wild there Linda! Kind of fun to see the churning waves and brooding skies but it would have been a bit scary to be there during those high winds. Your new shutters are great! You should paint some pretty things on the inside to look at. :)
