Now that I am the cucumber grower "extraordinaire"...
I decided to put them to good use!
I have done this with purchased cucumbers...
But...
These will be extra special delicious...
As...
They came from my very own beach veggie garden!
What I do is...
Save the pickle juice from any pickles that you have purchased at the store...
Simply slice your cucumbers...
And some thinly sliced red onion...
And a few peeled cloves of garlic...
Into a nice fancy schmancy jar...purchased on one of my MANY thrifty sprees....
Pour the liquid over...and VIOLA!!!!
Your very own...handmade...delighfully deliciously wonderful yummy pickles!
They are ready very quickly...perhaps even under a week..
These will be going to the cottage with me this weekend...
Back to their roots...so to speak!
Don't they look awesome!
My sweet African Violet thinks they look delicious too!!!
Seriously...you should try this...even when you buy a cucumber...
They taste way crispier and fresher!
I tried the pickling mix once...did not care for it at all...this is way better!!
Hope you all had a great day...
Supposed to pick up Vivian...but the vehicle with the car seat, had to go into the shop for some repairs to the oil tank...:o(...Of course they had to ORDER the part...so I couldn't pick her up...We were looking SOOOO forward to it too!!
Now...we probably won't see her 'til Sunday or Monday...I know she will miss us as well...
On the menu tonight...
Rotisserie Chicken...Fries...Spinach Salad...Swiss Chalet sauce!
Enjoy the rest of your day!!
Cheers! :o)

What a great idea, Linda. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm sorry you didn't get to see the little lady today, hopefully soon. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer...you too!!
DeleteCucumbers look great. Will they actually make it to the weekend, or will you have tucked in before! Hope the car is better soon.
ReplyDeleteAmy
p.s. what is Swiss Chalet Sauce?
Yes...they are packed and ready to go!
DeleteSwiss Chalet is a restaurant chain here in Canada...specializing in rotisserie chicken and luscious fries...served with a fabulous dipping sauce...you can buy it in a pouch and add water and heat, and have at home...DEEELISH!!
Great idea for home made pickled cucumbers . Lovely photos ! Oh that's a shame about not being able to pick up the little one .. hope the car gets fixed fast and all is well ! I have African violets as well about 5 of them and all different colours . My mum got me into them years ago ! Supper sounds good . I did chicken with veggie and rice stir fry ! Now time for our cup of tea . Thanks for sharing ! Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteViolets are my favorite house plant...have done several posts on them!!
DeleteThe truck will be ready on Monday...luckily we have 2 vehicles..but I did miss my time with Vivian!
You have a great weekend as well!
Yum! The red onion makes them look so pretty! I need to try this..I have everything except the pickle liquid! ha.
ReplyDeleteNo jarred pickles??? Really Betsy??? I am surprised!
DeleteI must not have had enough sleep because when I saw the porcelain cat in the first picture I thought it was real.
ReplyDeleteIt is real!!! Real porcelain! HA!
DeleteYou know you never get enough sleep!
Will I get a chance to try those yummy pickled cucs this weekend? They do look delish!
ReplyDeleteIf you are reeeeeealy nice to me, Devon....then....maybe!
DeleteYou are so clever making those pickles and reusing the pickle juice.
ReplyDeleteFamily left for BC yesterday .... sad day :( but we are already planning a trip for the spring.
I should get back to my site soon, all the pre-arranged posts were added ... time for something new. Today is a clean up day and I can already visualize the piles of sheets and towels for the laundry. Better go have a nice cup of tea before that starts. Enjoy the cottage weekend.
Why, thank you Crafty!
DeleteGet into that laundry, and some new posts!
Don't feel sad...you know fast the seasons go around here...Spring is just around the corner!
I am quite overwhelmed with cukes and zukes!
ReplyDeletePerhaps I shall bake up a storm of quick bread today and search out that Bread and Butter pickle recipe a friend gave me a few years back.
I do love the look of your pickles, but I don't think I have any pickle juice on hand. Maybe I'll have to check the back of the fridge.
Cukes and Zukes...gad zooks! haha!
DeleteI thought I planted Zucchini this year, but I haven't seen any yet!
The bread would be delish...check the back of the fridge! You never know what is lurking back there!
I didn't know it
DeleteBut I think you're a poet.
I don't know why I didnt' do this with my cukes? Looks delish! Garden is down to tomatoes and pumpkins now.

I thought I added this comment to your blog, when you were up to your eyeballs in zuchinni and cucumbers! I guess not...but...now you know! ha!
DeleteEnjoy your weekend!
There are few foods I dislike and cucumbers just happen to be one of them. That goes for pickles too. However, Marion happens to LOVE pickles, all kinds of pickles so we have quite the variety in the fridge. I will definitely being give this novel idea a try.
ReplyDeleteNow, I have a suggestion for you. Do you like Sauerbraten? If so, saved pickle juice of one kind or a mixture of many makes a great soaking for Sauerbraten meat. Leave set for three or fours days and you're good to go!!! Let me know if you try it, Linda:)
As you are not a pickle lover...I..alas...am not a Sauerbraten lover...:o(...sorry!
