An Excellent Use For These.....

Now that I am the cucumber grower "extraordinaire"...

I decided to put them to good use!

I have done this with purchased cucumbers...

But...

These will be extra special delicious...

As...

They came from my very own beach veggie garden!

What I do is...

Save the pickle juice from any pickles that you have purchased at the store...

Simply slice your cucumbers...

And some thinly sliced red onion...

And a few peeled cloves of garlic...

Into a nice fancy schmancy jar...purchased on one of my MANY thrifty sprees....

Pour the liquid over...and VIOLA!!!!

Your very own...handmade...delighfully deliciously wonderful yummy pickles!

They are ready very quickly...perhaps even under a week..

These will be going to the cottage with me this weekend...

Back to their roots...so to speak!

Don't they look awesome!

My sweet African Violet thinks they look delicious too!!!

Seriously...you should try this...even when you buy a cucumber...

They taste way crispier and fresher!

I tried the pickling mix once...did not care for it at all...this is way better!!

Hope you all had a great day...

Supposed to pick up Vivian...but the vehicle with the car seat, had to go into the shop for some repairs to the oil tank...:o(...Of course they had to ORDER the part...so I couldn't pick her up...We were looking SOOOO forward to it too!!

Now...we probably won't see her 'til Sunday or Monday...I know she will miss us as well...

On the menu tonight...

       Rotisserie Chicken...Fries...Spinach Salad...Swiss Chalet sauce!

Enjoy the rest of your day!!

                           Cheers!   :o)

    1. Yes...they are packed and ready to go!
Swiss Chalet is a restaurant chain here in Canada...specializing in rotisserie chicken and luscious fries...served with a fabulous dipping sauce...you can buy it in a pouch and add water and heat, and have at home...DEEELISH!!

  7. You are so clever making those pickles and reusing the pickle juice.
Family left for BC yesterday .... sad day :( but we are already planning a trip for the spring.
I should get back to my site soon, all the pre-arranged posts were added ... time for something new. Today is a clean up day and I can already visualize the piles of sheets and towels for the laundry. Better go have a nice cup of tea before that starts. Enjoy the cottage weekend.

  8. I am quite overwhelmed with cukes and zukes!
Perhaps I shall bake up a storm of quick bread today and search out that Bread and Butter pickle recipe a friend gave me a few years back.
I do love the look of your pickles, but I don't think I have any pickle juice on hand. Maybe I'll have to check the back of the fridge.

  10. There are few foods I dislike and cucumbers just happen to be one of them. That goes for pickles too. However, Marion happens to LOVE pickles, all kinds of pickles so we have quite the variety in the fridge. I will definitely being give this novel idea a try.

Now, I have a suggestion for you. Do you like Sauerbraten? If so, saved pickle juice of one kind or a mixture of many makes a great soaking for Sauerbraten meat. Leave set for three or fours days and you're good to go!!! Let me know if you try it, Linda:)

  11. As you are not a pickle lover...I..alas...am not a Sauerbraten lover...:o(...sorry!
