We ventured to the cottage on Saturday afternoon...
It was a chilly 6*c...
Which felt a lot chillier with the South wind off the water...
While my boyfriend chopped wood for the fireplace...
I raked what I HOPE is the last of the BIG rakes!!
There are still tiny pockets that need to be cleaned out...
Most of that will be done just with my hands!!
You know what I mean...pulling leaves out from between growing plants...
Very tedious job...but...very necessary!
We stayed outside for as long as we could...
But we were freezing!!
We ate Dinner...
Delicious crispy chicken thighs...
And then around 7:45...the wind changed directions!!!
YAHOO!!
BONFIRE!!
We ran down to the beach...after bundling up...grabbed a bench...and enjoyed the moon and a fabulous bonfire and sunset!!
It was a miracle!!
We returned inside...around 8:30...and could just see the puff of smoke down on the beach...
The fire inside was all ready and toasty for us...
SO...we lounged around...and listened to music for a while...♥️
I think we both fell asleep around 11pm!!!
My boyfriend stayed up for a bit, to catch the scores of the hockey games...
Sunday morning was spectacular!!
Nice and sunny on the beach deck...
A bit of smouldering from the fire, but with the wind still from the North, we piled some more debris on the fire!!
Around 1pm...
The darn wind switched again...
Straight from the south...
Very chilly...so I went inside to clean up...shower etc...to get ready to go to my son's for the PARTY!!!!
I did mange to capture the sweet Chickadee and Purple Finch in one of my feeders outside the window...
The Finch is so bright!!
And then...off we went to join our family at the PARTY!!!!
Not a bad visit...but still so cold!!
Hope you are all having a great day...
Another beautiful one here...
Have already been to the park with Miss V...and we promised her another trip after her nap..♥️
Hopefully this weather will continue, and the real garden work can get started!!
I picked up a lovely planter for the front...
Yellow Pansies and Daffodils...
You can smell the Pansies as soon as you go in or out!!
The other beautiful one that Erika had given me...is ready to be planted in the garden, as soon as I top up the soil in a few beds...
My pussy willow twigs have green leaves on them!!
Think I will try and transplant them at the cottage...
BBQ'D Sausages on a bun and Greek Salad for dinner...
NO BUN for me...I'm tryin'!!
Enjoy the rest of your day...
Cheers! :o)
linda
Brrrr -- hope it warms up soon at your cottage! I really like your frog and lilypad bird feeder -- so cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra!
DeleteThat feeder is from the $ store....a few years ago!
Absolutely love your Frog bird feeder. That is so adorable...looks like I'm not the only one that likes it. Have a great rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteGosh...we all have good taste,eh? Love that $ store!
DeleteThanks Wanda!
I have more leaves to rake tomorrow... you could rake them for me if you are missing doing them.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Love the froggy feeder!
Ha! Not!
DeleteEven though it was cold at least you got there! Love those pictures of the fire and of the birds. Sounds like a lovely weekend. Just the first of many.
ReplyDeleteYes Kathy....the first of many! Love that!
DeleteYour cottage photos are always great. And I love the finch with the seed in it's mouth. So cute. I had big plans to work all day outside and then my brother dropped by. First time to see the mouse-house so we had a long visit and a walk around.. What a gorgeous day it is today; like summer. There is so much to do here it's mind-boggling but a day at a time...a day at a time. When your all done raking I could use you here, Linda. :)
ReplyDeleteI think a brotherly visit beats work.....any day!
DeleteIt was beautiful here....Miss V kept us busy at the park....TWICE!
Like our cottage Deb....always something needs going!
I would love to come and help you rake!
It looks as though you had a great time! The fire and sunset picture - stunning!!!! You must be enjoying having sleepovers again! xx
ReplyDeleteYou got that right Amy!
DeleteIf it would just warm up out there!
Soooo much to do!
Your place is beautiful..
ReplyDeletethere is nothing like a fire by the beach!
I know exactly what you mean by hand raking..I do it all the time..
At least I am on my knees or not bending down :)
I love seeing our flag flying..Guilty of not doing it..:(
BBQ burgers on this gorge day..w/ BUN:)
Hi Monique! Let's hear it for hand raking! The only way to really clean things up!
DeleteYes....or sitting on my bum! Hahaha!
Bun for you......cause you are slim!
Beautiful photos Linda. I sounds quite chilly though. We've had a northeast wind here for the week and it's very cold. Waiting for that westerly or southerly wind to warm us up. Funny how a southerly wind off the water is cooler than off the land eh. xx Pam
ReplyDeleteIt was Pam.....darn chilly!
DeleteHopefully this weekend will be warmer!
Yes...at this time of year, the Lake is still cold....and the wind is brrrrrrrr!
In the a summer, the south wind is gorgeous and warm...
What a lot of activity crammed into the visit. Very productive and nice the wind direction changed and you had the bonfire.
ReplyDeleteLiked the shot of the woodcutter . . . and the bird life.
Both fell asleep . . . lol . . . sounds like me . . :)
Very interesting post . . . :)
Hi Eddie....
DeleteYes....we like to live on the edge! Hahaha!
We usually fall asleep out there....all the fresh air and hard labour!
Thanks!
Great bonfire ~ I like those and we have them at the large garden sometimes at The Rectory ~ I used to have them at my first house where we had a long garden and the wind blew it all away from the house into the country. Maria didn't like me smelling like a bonfire though . . . lol
DeleteI love the smell of a bonfire!
DeleteThat's quite some bonfire. Looking really tidy there now.. coming together nicely!
ReplyDeleteYes.....things are starting to take shape!
DeleteLove the hot orange of the fire against the pale peach of the sky - beautiful. And that frog feeder is hysterical! Too much fun. Sunday's pics are glorious with all that sun and blue sky with padded clouds. Your photos always tell such a great story.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Suzanne! Love your comments....
Delete$ store feeder!
I really enjoyed the bonfire and sunset.....♥️
It's so nice to get out and do those spring chores, even if it is chilly. Looks like you're doing what we're doing these days - except you have a lake to do it beside! That's a pretty neat fireplace you've got in your cottage!
ReplyDeleteHi Furry...
DeleteApparently it is built from stone found on Gull Island on Lake Erie....
I love it too! It has a HUGE hearth....
The lake makes any chore bearable....
Looks like a hard working weekend at the cottage, glad you remembered to post a photo of your feet, ha, ha. Nice that you had little Miss V. today, isn't she lucky! :) We cleaned up the garden in the back yard, was sorry that I had to tutor my student, didn't want to miss the lovely weather. Hope it continues! Take care...
ReplyDeleteAlways Hester......always...
DeleteMy feet.....yes...must have a pic of them! Hahaha!
Enjoyed our day with Miss V....2 trips to the park!
Too bad you were inside....it was glorious!
Hope you get out there tomorrow....
I think if we had a beach cottage, the bonfires would be one of my favorite things! And what perfect timing after all that raking!
ReplyDeleteOh yes....bonfires are the best!
DeleteWe also have our little fire pit that works great , when nothing on the beach to burn...
random happy thoughts as i read this post . . .
ReplyDeletewhat a good looking boyfriend!
and the bonfire... i swear! could almost hear the crackle and feel the heat in the crisp air. so beautiful!
and the birds... and the canada geese swimming... oh my.
and finally... the inside of your cottage reminds me of the wonderful summer cabins in the adirondacks in new york. lovely. ♥
Glad you could make it for the weekend!
DeleteYour weekend at the cottage softened my brittle edges...you have a way of writing, Linda. The water and wind and outdoor fire. Inside I laughed, I absolutely without fail fall asleep in front of a fire after 15 minutes. Your meals entice me and you make me long for some spring work about the cottage. I'll live through you for a long while. Still, good for you and the boyfriend...such happiness...soon we will share that.
ReplyDeleteJane xxx
It must be very difficult Jane.....could you not work out there outside? Or is that a mess too?
DeleteYou are welcome to live thru me this summer♥️
What a lovely post, Linda. The bonfire on the beach is spectacular, and I love the peek inside at your stone fireplace. What a great chimney you have! When the seasons change in Canada, everything happens so quickly and dramatically. Here the differences are slight (boring). Pretty little birds there - love me a red birdie :) I'll be over there next week...
ReplyDeleteSafe trip Patricia!
DeleteI love the look of your cottage and beach soo pretty and cozy ! I am glad the weather was not to bad for you and you were able to enjoy some time outside there ! Lovely photos and supper sounds YUMMY ! Yes the weather is slowly and finally warming up ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteHeading out there first thing Friday morning!
DeleteThat was a load of leaves to rake up. I'm just about done just those odd bits among the plants like you mentioned. I have a little hand rake, probably from the dollar store, and it works well among the plants, but I do have to get down on my knees to use it and can't do that for a long time, but at least I can get down there now since my knee surgery a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope the last!
DeleteI have one of those little rakes too♥️
Sounds like an odd meal, I never heard of those things together.
ReplyDeleteBut so what? That's the fun of food.
Brrrrrr..... Oh, soon for the warmer weather. We've had a cool front and more rain. Usually an average of 80 F by now for us... never got to 60 F yesterday (I know that sounds like whining to you. ;) ). I'm trying, too, Linda... and it's just no fun. ha! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteNot bad at home here...cooler by the water!
DeleteHa....I hear 'ya Tanna!!
