And The Birds Were Singing

Visited the cottage yesterday, for a few hours of gardening...well...not really gardening...cleaning up the winter mess is more like it!!

My miscanthus grasses, although lovely to behold in the late summer, can be a real pain in the ---, to clean up in the spring!!
I took these shots of before, and during the tedious process..
They have to be cut one by one...and as close to the ground as possible...then you have to get into the middle, and remove all the dead leaves, etc...to let the sun in and  encourage new growth...

This is the after shot....believe it or not...you can see the two clumps where it used to be....there are still 5 to be done!! I guess that will be next week...I also got the front bed cleaned up...the yucca can finally get some sun and rain now...
This is what it looks like in early August...WOW...so you can see....well worth the effort....now, if it were only...no, I won't say it....I am just happy that it is sunny, warm and Spring!!!

The other good thing about yesterday, was that the birds were crazy!!!!

This little red-breasted nut hatch was as hungry as can be...
This pair of purple finch were singing their hearts out...must get the nyger seed out next visit...spotted one yellow finch, but couldn't capture a shot of him...

The reason for being diligent with the seed, is of course the familiar...chicka-dee-dee-dee that I love to hear...

This big guy resembled the nuthatch, but a lot larger...anyone recognize him??? There was also a woodpecker, but I couldn't get the camera fast enough for him......next time   :o)

I will close with a shot of my perfect pink kalanchoe...still blooming....spent 3 hours in my garden here at home today...got front and back done....filled 5 bags....much smaller scale here at home...surrounded by several robins...perhaps looking to nest here.....looks good, if I must say so myself!!

Hope you all enjoyed the fabulous weather...
Til next time
Cheers............:o)
