Visited the cottage yesterday, for a few hours of gardening...well...not really gardening...cleaning up the winter mess is more like it!!
My miscanthus grasses, although lovely to behold in the late summer, can be a real pain in the ---, to clean up in the spring!!
I took these shots of before, and during the tedious process..
They have to be cut one by one...and as close to the ground as possible...then you have to get into the middle, and remove all the dead leaves, etc...to let the sun in and encourage new growth... |
This is what it looks like in early August...WOW...so you can see....well worth the effort....now, if it were only...no, I won't say it....I am just happy that it is sunny, warm and Spring!!! |
The other good thing about yesterday, was that the birds were crazy!!!!
This little red-breasted nut hatch was as hungry as can be...
This pair of purple finch were singing their hearts out...must get the nyger seed out next visit...spotted one yellow finch, but couldn't capture a shot of him... |
The reason for being diligent with the seed, is of course the familiar...chicka-dee-dee-dee that I love to hear... |
This big guy resembled the nuthatch, but a lot larger...anyone recognize him??? There was also a woodpecker, but I couldn't get the camera fast enough for him......next time :o) |
Hope you all enjoyed the fabulous weather...
Til next time
Cheers............:o)
