Went to the cottage on Friday...
For...
What turned out to be...
A...
Short visit.....
But first...
Let's visit the gardens....shall we?
The Watermelons keep popping out...
But never get to amount to much...
If I grow them next year, I will do some homework, on how to deter critters!!!
Staying in the beach garden...
A few surprises have sprung up recently...
As this soil was from my upper gardens, {when the deck addition went in} I guess some seeds came along for the ride...
Here are some Hollyhocks...I must transplant these, as this hill of dirt will not survive the waves of winter on the beach...
Also a few more Mullions...I really like this Native plant...so she will get uprooted as well...
AND... the nicest suprise of all...
Was..
This gorgeous Datura..
I had noticed it growing before...but lost track of it under all the vines and such with the melons...
Ain't she a beauty!!
I think I will bring her home, and get her into the ground here...
Let her drop her seeds, and grow happily at home!!
WIth the thinning of the melon and cucumber vines...I spotted this plant tag...
I guess what I had planted was Honeydew Melons...
No wonder the Raccoons...or whoever...
Loved to munch on them!!
Tiny Sunflower still going strong!!!
Also still flowering on the beach...
Pink Phlox...very hardy...
Milkweed getting ready to do it's thing!
It was a strange day weatherwise....
Humid....then cool...then windy...then sunny...then HOT!!!
The Miscanthus is putting on a good show...
Noticed a few plumes...
Will share that later...
I really like the way this pathway...to the new deck...turned out...
Almost like entering a secret garden at the other side...
One of the Coleus had flowered...Such a dainty flower...And check out the green and black polka-dot bug!!
HAHAHA!!!
A few more luscious wee tomatoes...
We ate this while sitting on the deck!!!
What a delicious and healthy snack!
The Bees and Flies..{apparently}...were very busy in the Sedums..
I had no idea the Flies were interested in Nectar...Did you??
A very cloudy evening...indeed...
And another surprise in the morning...
The roof...ABOVE OUR BED...decided to leak, during that torrential rain...
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!
The mattress and box spring were soaked at the bottom...
And the carpet on my boyfriends side of the bed was soggy...:o( :o( :o(
Called our handyman...and he will climb up there tomorrow and have a look!!
We replaced the roof 15 years ago...so...
Not sure what the repair will entail...
TO BE CONTINUED!!!
Hope you all had a great weekend...
Boyfriend has a cold...probably have breakfast for dinner...
Peameal bacon...scrambled egg whites...homefries...
Enjoy the rest of your day......
Cheers! :o)
linda
Don't you love all the surprises you discover when you go a meandering, Linda. The pathway really came out great. It reminds me of the days I spent on Fire Island in my youth.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your leaky roof. What a bummer. I've been pricing new roofs for the house the last couple of weeks. Sticker Shock!!!
Thanks so much for sharing, Linda...Happy Fall!!!
Thanks Louise...
DeleteThe roof is a bummer allright...
Will wait to hear from my handy dandy guy...Lloyd...
You have so many beautiful plants at the cottage and it amazes me how those little flowers grow in the beach rocks. I'm sorry to hear of the leaking roof. Good thing to find out now before winter sets in. You might have come back next spring to a real mess! Hope it's not too costly to repair.
ReplyDeleteI know...we even have a few clumps of Miscanthus that have sprung up...
DeleteI guess the seeds blow...and they grow!!
I hope it is not too costly either...we spent a bundle on the sunporch last year...:o(
Boo for the cold! And boo for the leaky roof! Good luck!
ReplyDeletexo Kris
Thanks Kris...Hope things are bootiful with you!!
DeleteOh...that Datura with the water droplets looks like I would like to jump into it....like a trampoline and just settle there. Wow.....awesome pics. I see the pink toes are still in vogue.....soon time for fall colours? I'm guessing some TLC is in store for the boyfriend to ease him over his sickness. Not too close...or you will pick it up as well.
ReplyDeleteCome on in, Ann...Aren't those Daturas awesome!!
DeleteNever change the toe color...always hot pink!!
Took care of the boyfriend all day...
I'll probably get it...and then I can take care of myself!!
a soaking bed...oh yuck! Hope you don't need a whole new roog!
ReplyDeletewe had that weather today, too.....rain...sun...cold...hot...cold. lol....
we had omelettes and fried potatoes, too....great minds...it was delish!
Yuck is right!
DeleteWe already replaced the roof...we'll see WHAT Lloyd says!
Great minds is right...we do that quite often!
Love the volunteer plants ... and all are doing so well. Hope they survive the transplant. I had a volunteer datura but it didn't flower this year.
ReplyDeleteInteresting bug on the coleus.
Yikes, leaky roof ... hope it isn't a major fix.
Cool, sunny then cloudy, a bit windy (great for drying laundry). I think I've picked the last of the tomatoes for this year, a few more green ones that might ripen on the plant but will if I pick them and bring them inside for a bit of warmth. Lots of leaves falling off the poplar, need to get the lawn sweeper out tomorrow and scoop them up. Fall is here!
I'll keep you posted when I move them!
DeleteI can send you some Datura seeds...if you want!
Sounds like Friday...yesterday was hideous out there..
The Great Lakes is no place to be during a storm!!
Supposed to be arm all week...perhaps the tomatoes will ripen for you..
Don't talk about raking!!!
It is tedious at the cottage!!!
Sorry to hear about your roof! I hope it's an easy fix. You still have so much blooming there, it's lovely. Those tomatoes look delicious, my kind of snack! :)
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes ARE delicious!
DeleteThat is all I am going to grow next year!
Had to look for that green and black polka dotted bug. He's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the cottage, and your bed, dried out quickly.
Apparently he is a cucumber beetle!!
DeleteGuess he missed that boat! ha!
Me too!
I never heard of flies but maybe mason bees. They look a lot like flies.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the soggy bed and floor!! Not fair :(((( Sunset is lovely though. Will read forward to see what happened next!
