Yesterday when we were out doing some yardwork...this wee guy was flitting about the back yard. Taking sunflower seeds from the feeders, and going to the maple tree...and hammering the life out of them! Not sure if he was actually leaving the seed there....or breaking the shell, and eating the seed.
Somebody else was watching as well...
Always lurking...getting closer...
That is why Mr Downy headed up into the branches...
To get away from the infamous Red...who was already to jump up...
And...I think...grab whatever the woodpecker had been working on!
Oh well......
Another day with Red...
Never a dull moment!!
Hope you are all having a great day...
Lovely and warm here....but cloudy...
Lots of rivers overflowing their banks here in Ontario...
Hope you are all safe from that...
Enjoy the rest of your day....
On the menu tonight...
Crispy baked pork chops...baked potatoes...brocolli
Sliced tomatoes with Goats cheese and avacado...
Cheers! :o)
linda
Little red, he gets everywhere doesn't he!! xx
ReplyDeleteHe is a wee s*** disturber! Hahaha!
DeleteLove woodpeckers. Yours are fluffier than ours, must be the cold!
ReplyDeleteMust be!
DeleteGreat captures and I love your new header! The snow is going very fast here now too but we're having flurries this afternoon. :( We still have LOTS of snow. Oh my. It's melting but there is still so much left. Unreal! Have a great week ahead Linda. Hugs. Pam
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam....I have been wondering where you have been.....
DeleteWatching the snow melt?
So similar to our Great Spotted variety - beautiful Linda.
ReplyDeleteThanks Em....
DeleteFunny how we have such different bird species...
Love some of the ones you photograph!
I wonder where Mrs Downy is! haha. He's so sweet. I have one that comes around...a Mrs. Maybe we should introduce them? :)
ReplyDeleteThe female does not have the red cap.....
DeleteSend her up! Hahaha!
I had his twin at my tree this morning. Gorgeous photos, Linda. And there's Red..."Welcome back, little fella". We have the same weather, not too bad. Love the header as those are my favorite-coloured tulips. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteDeb....red never bloody left! He has ruled the yard all winter!♥️
DeleteVery humid today....muggy....
The header is just for you, Deb!
Thank you, m'am.
DeleteNo problem my friend!
DeleteLittle Red is always getting into mischief around here. Yesterday he was pouncing on a black squirrel and then running away. He did it several times, probably because Mr Black was enjoying a patch of black oil seed under one of the bird feeders and Little Red wanted his share :)
ReplyDeleteThey sure are mischief makers...always ruling what goes on around here!
Deletelovely photos. we have no Reds here., just greys
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy....
DeleteThe Reds are real bullies...he thinks he owns the joint! Hahaha!
Your new header is just stunning!! Love it! And Mr. Woodpecker...brings back memories of my first recitation in 1st grade. Said with fear and trembling in front of the whole class. "The woodpecker pecked out a little round hole and made him a home in the telephone pole."
ReplyDeleteHadn't thought of that in years..you Mr. redhead triggered a memory.
And your RED is just too adorable. What great shots you got of your little outdoor friends.
Linda...I do not have good luck with pork chops....can you give me some tips.
Sending hugs and smiles.
Thanks Wanda♥️glad it was a good memory!
DeleteI find the thicker chops stay more moist...I use Panko crumbs, seasoned to your liking...on a foil covered pan...sprinkle of Olive Oil....about 20 minutes on 350...turn once.....I also make a packaged gravy mix, just for extra moisture....give it a try!
Ah, but they are so stinking cute!
ReplyDeleteJanex
Don't you just love Nature, Jane?
DeleteEnjoy your week....
Seriously impressed with those photos, Linda.
ReplyDeleteWhat a colourful Woodpecker.
I find it incredible that they don't get a serious head injury with all that tree bashing. or a bad headache!
Love the squirel as well. We in the UK used to have Red Squirrels but they had a hard time when the Grey Squirrels courtesy of the States gradually became dominant. We still have them but they are much rarer.
Hi Eddie....
DeleteThanks for the compliment!
Funny thing...we have no red squirrels at the cottage..only black and grey!
We had our own 'Red' furiously chasing a huge black squirrel across the backyard this afternoon. The black squirrel dwarfed 'Red' but seemed scared to death and ran like the dickens to allude him! Funny!
ReplyDeleteI think they think they are big and tough!
DeleteI would miss him though......
Nice new header! And great pictures of the downy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Furry......
DeleteHe wasn't around today...guess Red scared him away!
Your new header is beautiful as is the bird.
ReplyDeleteThanks Birdie.....I enjoyed seeing the bird.....♥️
DeleteIt was a beautiful day! Couldn't ask for anything better!
ReplyDeleteI like your animal friends. I need a stronger camera lens in order to catch my feathered and furry friends.
I took those from inside.....zoomed in!
DeleteIt was a beautiful weekend.....
Hope you had a great one!
beautiful shots!!!!! Its amazing the way birds are so afraid of those bossy little squirrels!!!Good supper!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes they are!
DeleteHe was chasing the cardinals around this morning!!
Love the blog title, "Woke up, got out of bed!
ReplyDeleteMy tendency these days is, "Woke up, went back to sleep!" lol
I named it after the Beatles song...
DeleteWhen my friend told me I should write a blog...I said like what...."woke up...got out of bed"
She said..."absolutely"!
Ahh! I thought I'd heard it before . . . . somewhere! And now I know - great idea!
DeleteWe have black, we have gray but we don't have Red. I want Red!!! I also wouldn't mind a woodpecker or two, lol...I must remember to save sunflower seeds this year so I can have some when Spring arrives next year, lol...I know, I'm getting ahead of myself, lol...still waiting for Spring to get in full swing here but Sunday was a lovely day, as was today until it rained, lol...Thanks for sharing, Linda...I realy dropped by to tell you how much I LOVE that header!!!
ReplyDeleteYou don't want Red!
ReplyDeleteHe is very mischievous....tried ti build in one of our exhaust fans, and even came into my bathroom once....thru the screen!!!
