Salix Discolor Muhl....or....Pussy Willows♥️
Don't you just love Pussywillows?
So much more than snow!
I rooted a branch about 25 years ago...
Stuck it in the ground at the side of the house...
And now...it is a mammoth Pussy Willow Tree...
We have had to trim it several times...as it almost fell over!
The roots are very shallow on Willows...
Unfortunately....now...it is almost impossible to get any thin branches...
They are way too high!
But...
I am going to ask the boyfriend tomorrow...
To get the trusty ladder out...and just see...
If I can snip a few...
For my front step planter...wish me luck!!
I captured these photos...while raking in the backyard...
I did not even know they were blooming!!!
SO...
I zoomed in...
And got a few good shots...
See the tiny rain drops?
I think these are very beautiful...
And I even like when it "blows"...
Except...
They do make it kinda messy, when they all fall at once!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you are all having a great productive day so far... I have done a wee bit of ironing...changed the sheets...have a few rugs in the washer...
Going out later...gonna hit the Greenhouse and get some flowers for my table and planter...
Also...a few odds and ends left at the grocery store...don't want to have to go near there after today!!! The crowds get crazy before a holiday...
I hope we can get out to the cottage perhaps on Saturday...hope they change the forecast!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SO.........how are your preparations coming along?
Turkey or Ham??
Hosting or being a guest?
How many for dinner?
Have a great day...
The sun is shining...cold...but sunny!
On the menu tonight...
Pepper steak served over no-yolk noodles...
Loaded Spinach Salad...
Cheers! :o)

I do love pussywillows although we don't have any. Terrific photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbara...hope I can get some from the tree!!
DeleteThose are the best shots ever of pussy willow. It looks like Laurie used your pictures for her lovely watercolor of pussy willow. Wonder if they would grow in CA.
ReplyDeleteEaster will be mixed emotions, as all our adult kids and families are going in different directions this. We will spend it with our oldest daughter and SIL's family as his Dad is home with hospice, so the family will gather for a BBQ there and visit with him. So I won't be cooking...but usually do lamb.
My Mom used to cook lamb....the boyfriend and I love it, but the kids...not so much!
DeleteWherever you are Wanda...you will have a wonderful time!
You just seem to exude happiness!
Got a call from my granddaughter this afternoon...Papa passed away Tuesday night...We will still go...and hopefully bring some hope and joy and comfort to the family. Linda say a prayer for us..Death loves to come at Holidays doesn't it. Don's mom, Easter, my mom Thanksgiving, my dad Christmas...the list goes on. Love you dear, and your kind words.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss, Wanda ... thoughts and prayers go with you ....
DeleteThose are beautiful photos, Linda. I'm going to have to get me a branch to root and put out on our property. I love them. I just finished making pie crust to freeze until Sunday and then I'll make the pies for Monday. We have a pineapple glazed ham & scalloped potatoes with all the trimmings. I also make a few extra veggie dishes for the veg-heads. :) Lots of wine, lots of chocolate. :))) Deb
ReplyDeleteOne of my very favorite meals Deb...unfortunately the kids never took to Ham...now 2 of them don't eat ANY meat...and I have to make the turkey gluten-free!!!
DeleteOh for the good old days, when they ate whatever you put in front of them!
Lots of wine here...FOR SURE! Once I get everything organized!
We ahve a gluten free carrot cake coming...and I will make my apple/blueberry/raspberry/strawberry pie....DELISH!!
Lovely photos ! I to like pussy willows soo pretty and soft to the touch ! A guest this weekend at a family dinner my in laws next door lol but I will bring something I always do lol ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteYour inlaws live next door??? How is that working out??

I always loved pussy willows until I discovered that they make me sneeze. So I can really enjoy them in a photo!
ReplyDeleteThat is a shame Mae....glad you liked the photos!
DeleteI have no plans for Easter. I am working and totally forgot about it until I read this post!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love pussy willows. When I was little a teacher taught us the pussy willow poem and I still have it in my head today.
I know a little pussy
Her coat is silver grey,
She lives down in the meadow,
Not very far away.
She’ll always be a pussy,
She’ll never be a cat,
‘Cause she’s a pussy willow,
Now what do you think of that?
Meow, meow, meow, meow,
Meow, meow, skat!
This is so cute...never heard it, but love it.
Deletelove!
DeleteWell Birdie....your verse is a hit! Hey....get your own blog!!! oh yeah...you do! hahaha!
DeleteSorry that you have to work....perhaps a nice meal during the week....
I love pussy willows and forsythia ... they herald Spring in my mind!! We're having leg of lamb, roasted vegetables and other treats for Easter ... my youngest sister is in town to visit and Mom is really excited to see her. Question: I purchased a few small violet plants and a beautiful yellow Kalanchoes. The little "tombstone marker" they put on the violets said they like bright light but not direct sun. How about the Kalanchoes? How much light there? Also ... tips on watering? Your flowers are so BEAUTIFUL ... I just want a green thumb like yours!! Happy Easter to you and yours! Linda
ReplyDeleteHI Linda...
DeleteMy Violets are in direct sun...and they love it! Same for the Kalanchoes...water when dry...a little fertilizer never hurts either...
Happy Easter....
Oh I do love pussy willows! Ever since they used to grow in the schoolyard at my elementery school. Your photos are just lovely. I'm not online as much these days. I need to catch up! But I'm so glad spring is happening again for you! Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline....thanks for stopping by...have a great Easter!
DeleteLove pussy willow.
ReplyDeleteHope your b/f can get you some from the ladder.
I trust the snow has gone.
Yes...the bright sunshine took care of that!
DeleteEnjoy your weekend Eddie...
When it's warm we all feel like:
DeleteWaking up and getting out of bed! LOL
And....dragging a comb across our heads! Ha!
DeleteJust need flowers for the table which I'll get on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteJust the two of us chez nous.
Roasted asparagus with lemony breadcrumbs, tofu leek and lemon bake with a basmati rice topping,julienne of mixed root vegetables with cauliflower 'cream', chocolate mousse with raspberries.
I think that's all the questions answered!

DeleteThe pussywillow twigs are a traditional part of Easter Palm in Poland. Unfortunately they don't grow as commonly in UK as they do in Poland, so I won't be having them in my bouquet this year.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that Aga....my boyfriends Mom was Polish....and my son's gal is Polish!
DeleteDo you make cabbage rolls? Love those!
LOL! delightful post!
ReplyDeletei knew birdie's poem by heart too! hadn't thought of it in years. i remembered more than i thought!

I am glad you liked her verse...it was not something that I remembered!
DeleteHope to have a great time....you too dear!
I've always loved them! I remember being fascinated with them as a child. I have them on my wish list...I really want a bush in my yard!
ReplyDeleteWe have them at the stores now...grab yourself a bunch....put them in water....and they will root for you.....
DeleteWhen is the best time to plant them, Linda?
DeleteOnce they have good roots....and the soil heats up!
DeleteProbably 6 weeks or so...
I love pussy willows.
ReplyDeleteHam always HAM. A virginia ham this time!!!!
The bunny has been busy buying chocolates
Yummy......ham and chocolate ♥️
DeleteWhat gorgeous photos of the pussy willows! Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteTurkey for us. The boys love it and won't have anything else, unless it is in addition to 'THE TURKEY'! Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the family!
Turkey is my choice as well.....
DeleteEnjoy!
I haven't gathered pussy willows in years. They are quite pretty and I do have some faux ones that don't go to see and blow pollen everywhere. lol As for Easter dinner? No plans. Busy weekend for us with choir and band at church. We have practice on Saturday and 2 back to back services on Sunday morning. No time to eat! lol Maybe I'll scrounge something up on Monday. (don't worry, this happens every Easter with us) :)
ReplyDeleteVery smart of you Pam.....no mess to clean up!
DeleteYou sound very busy....enjoy your time...
I love pussy willows. They look so pretty in a vase, nice and simple. I hope the grocery store wasn't bad. I went this afternoon, to get most of what I need to cook on Sunday. We do have to get our ham at Costco on Friday but we'll go very early. Otherwise, I'm ready for that bunny! :)
ReplyDeleteI did pretty well.....problem was I kept running into people and chatting my face off! Hahaha!
DeleteEnjoy your Ham.....hippity hop!
