Thrifty...and chilly.... Thursday.....

As I write this post...

I have 2 sweaters on...

A scarf....

Big thick socks...

Slippers...

Cup of tea steeping♥️

Our furnace fan died yesterday morning...

And...we are...still waiting...for them...

To come...and install...a new fan!

The temp inside is 12*c...

Not bad...if it were Spring or Fall...

With a warm breeze blowing...

And a sun shiny sky...

Oh well...they also called..and said they were "running late"....running late???

What a silly expression that is...if you were running...perhaps you might be early!! hahaha!

Fire is on....small heater going...I am up here in my chilly office....just long enough to add some text to these photos...and then....back doen to the kitchen...where it is sunny....and warm at the table....

*****UPDATE......HEAT BACK ON AT 4PM...THANKS FOR ALL YOUR CONCERNS*****

When thrifting last week....I found a few delightful things...like this wicker tray....$2...

Put it on the living room table for now...with a few candles....and knick knacks.......looking good!

My next treasure is a tablecloth...

48"x48"....perfect size...

Love all the embroidery....

This will be perfect for my table at the cottage...

Or....right here in the kitchen....$3...

The next purchase...is so cute...

I have been looking at these guys since September...at one particular Sally Ann...

I wanted them for the cottage garden..

But...stingy me....thought that they were a bit too pricey....haha!

They wanted $5 for the biggest one...

And...$2 each for the others...

I approached the gal, as she was putting more stuff on the shelves...

I explained that they had been there for a while...

She agreed...

I offered her $5 for the whole gaggle...

And....she agreed....YAY!!!!

I love these guys...and one is a planter...perfect spot for a wee African Violet...next summer...

Aren't they adorable???

They aren't all the same...I especially like the one with the painted webbed feet....he is the planter!

Is that not a happy little face?♥️♥️♥️

Next up....

A cute little pyrex casserole...

Not large....not inbetween...small!

Perfect size for leftovers...

Heating soup...

Love this!

I have never seen this pattern before..

I have several others with the flat lids...

This actually had the last of my chicken soup in it....

Just the right size for "one"... $1...

Not sure if I have ever shared my passion for finding small shoes, before....

They are beocming harder and harder to find these days...

Most of them are at the cottage...

And they were found years ago...

Perhaps I will feature a few of those this summer....

Some of them are quite a giggle....

These ones cracked me up...

With their polka dots...

And platforms....

Kinda look like Witches shoes!    $1/pr!

Ever since Miss V was born....I look for small china figurines....

The latest is the small mouse on the left....the bunnies with the umberellas was a while ago...

I hope when she gets bigger....she will enjoy playing wiht all the small characters....

We have a lot of Doggies and kitty kats here at home...

And she always wants to give them a kiss  ♥️

And......yes.....that is the boyfriend and I... a VERY LONG TIME AGO!!!

So.....these are the latest thrifty purchases....what do you think?

Pretty good I'd say! hahaha!

Did you know you could barter at the thrift stores???

Oh yes..I jsut remembered...when the nice lady at the cash, was wrapping up the ducks...

She sid..."Good....I don't have to dust them anymore"!!!

And...she gave me a card...stamped that I had spent $10...I said I didn't spend $10...

She said..."That's ok...just happy to see those darn ducks go"!

There were several other ducks, that I left behind...If they are still there in March...

I will try and make a deal for the rest!!!!

                                            **************

Ok...down I go to the sunny kitchen...

Hope you are all enjoying your day...

Thanks for all your lovely comments on yesterdays post...♥️

Much appreciated....

                                                  *****************

On the menu this chilly {inside and out!} Thursday...

Crispy roasted chicken thighs....roasted potatoes....zucchini and parmesan...

At least the oven will warm us up.........hahaha!

                                               Cheers!  :o)
                                                   linda

  1. "Running late".....that is the best explanation ever. Loved it. I'll never use that expression again without laughing and thinking of you.
Your Thrift finds are excellent. The wicker tray is beautiful and elegant looking. The table cloth is just like the work my mom used to do. I only have a few of her pieces. She always had a set of dish towels with Monday ~ Sunday too.
As always, your dinner sounds delish, and I'm do Chicken Marsala tonight with angle hair pasta. I love planning menu's and camping out in my little kitchen.
Stay warm...I think I hear the tea kettle...sending hugs.

  2. Those ducks are adorable, can't wait to see them in their cottage home. Such great finds, makes me want to get out and do some thrift shopping. I did donations last week. Hope that furnace guy is there soon and you are basking in warmth throughout the house.

    1. Yes....so glad I finally got them...I bought a duck last spring, and she sits on the deck....these gals/guys will join her there!

  3. I really wish we had thrift stores like the ones you shop at. Though the merchandise can be nice they are so expensive! That pyrex dish would go for about $7 - $8. I refuse to spend that much on a second and item! I can get them new on sale for that price. And one particular store has a big sign saying you are NOT allowed to barter!

    1. Do you have Salvation Army out there? Or Bibles for Missions? that is where I get most of my stuff...
Perhaps you should come to Ontario to do your thrift shopping!!
I find Value Village waaaay overpriced...

  5. Beautiful finds, Linda! Brr, it must be so cold in your house. A couple of years ago, we had a natural gas shortage in our area and we were told to keep our furnaces turned low to conserve gas, which would have been fine if it wasn't THREE degrees outside when they said this! Yikes. I loved seeing the photo of you and your boyfriend. So pretty and handsome! My husband had a full beard like that when I met him but he's down to a mustache/goatee now, he was too furry the other way, haha.

Yes..the boyfriend had a full beard for many years...but...when it started going grey, he went to the moustache and goatee...I love it!

  6. I hope that by now the furnace has been fixed, it is so horrid when you are cold indoors, it is bad enough being cold outside, but not inside too!! If not you will have to set up camp by the fire and refuse to move all day!! Lovely finds - sounds as though you made the day of the lady selling the geese, she sounds glad to have got rid of them - to your gain!! xx

  8. It is cold outside and inside my house and my heater is working! I hope by now you have heat in your house. It is too cold to be without it. Bundle up good and stay warm.

I love all your thrift finds -- especially that beautiful wicker tray and the little shoes. So cute. Think how much work went into that tablecloth. It is a real beauty.

  10. Such cute finds . We had our furnace fan go on us last year in the winter luckily we have the wood stove to heat up the house and at night we had the electric blanket on the bed . Glad it is all fixed up as we are to be getting very frigid temps and wind chills again this weekend ! Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !

I love the wicker tray and pretty embroidered table cloth. I hope to visit Value Village this afternoon after I drop my son off in town. I wonder if I'll find anything of 'value' there. :-)

  17. Glad your furnace is working again. What a crazy time for this to happen. I find today colder than yesterday. The wind doesn't help. Love the little figurines. I collect little ones, too for the grand-girls. They will love them someday. Stay warm and enjoy the heat tonight. Deb
